Why I Fight: Monique – What’s your name, where are you from, and what do you do?

My name is Monique and although I’m originally from Maine, I’ve been living in and around the Boston area since 2008. By day, I am an auditor, but by nights and weekends I teach fitness classes all around the city and am the blogger behind the blog Burpees to Bubbly.

What makes you a fighter?

I always want to be the best version of myself and constantly fight for that. I’m always looking to try new things and look forward to all I can learn from those things, even if it’s scary or uncomfortable at first.

What do you fight for?

fight for strength and power to persevere through whatever life might throw at me- both in the gym and out, and I fight to help others gain this strength and power, too. I fight because I can, and I fight for those who can’t.

What inspires you to take the hits and keep on fighting?

I know that whenever life knocks me down, I have the power & strength to get back up. I also know that these tough times are often the times I learn the most- about myself, about others and/or about the situation at hand and this is motivation to keep going.

If you could fight side-by-side with one person, past or present, who would it be?

James Braddock, AKA: Cinderella Man- his determination and fight are incredible and I love how he pushes through boundaries and “can’ts” and “shouldn’ts” to prove that he CAN and SHOULD, which is a great lesson for us all.

What is your Fight Fuel?

I try to eat lots of fruits, veggies, healthy fats & lean proteins because this makes me feel my best… but before teaching or taking a class I tend to stick to bananas, peanut or almond butter & almonds.

What is your Fight Song?

Whatever gets me pumped up at a particular time… lately, it’s been “This is how we do it” because it makes me want to dance, which is perfect in BAGSxBEATS!

What’s your favorite EverybodyFights class?

BAGSxBEATS – I used to dance so moving to the beat is something that comes naturally to me, plus, if you’ve got a good playlist you don’t even realize you’re working hard 😉

Who is your favorite EverybodyFights Trainer, and why?

Ah! there are so many amazing instructors at EBF, but if I had to pick one, it would have to be Nicole! She has been such a huge help with all things EBF related and I appreciate her teaching style. She is very skilled & knowledgeable, as well as welcoming to everyone.

How do you Fight It Forward?

fight it forward by always trying to approach people and situations with an open mind and to see the best in them/it. In classes, I try to get each fighter to dial in and think about what they’re fighting for- this helps give them purpose and passion not only throughout class, but also in life outside of the class.
