HYROX 101 What It Is and Why Everyone’s Talking About It

July 14, 2025 | Daniel Gruebel

You’ve probably heard the name HYROX buzzing around gyms, fitness podcasts, and social media but what exactly is it? HYROX is quickly becoming the world’s leading fitness race, combining functional strength with endurance in a format that challenges even the fittest athletes. Whether you’re a competitive CrossFitter, casual runner, or someone simply looking for a new goal to train toward, HYROX offers a clear path to test and transform your fitness.

At EverybodyFights (EBF), we’ve seen the HYROX hype and we’ve answered the call with group training that’s built to help you dominate your next race.

What Is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness competition designed to test strength, endurance, and mental grit. Every athlete, from beginner to elite, completes the same standardized race format:

  • 1,000m run
  • Followed by 1 functional fitness station
  • Repeat 8 times total

That means you’ll alternate between running and strength-based challenges like sled pushes, rowing, lunges, wall balls, and burpee broad jumps. The race is performed indoors, making it season-proof, and the format remains the same in every city across the globe.

Who Is HYROX For?

One of the most exciting parts of HYROX is that it’s for everyone. The race offers different categories:

  • Open Division – Ideal for first-timers or recreational athletes
  • Pro Division – For those who want to test their limits with heavier weights
  • Doubles – Team up with a partner and split the work
  • Relay – Teams of four who each complete two workout stations and runs

So whether you’re looking to test your limits or just have a blast with a team, HYROX gives you a real finish line to train toward.

Why Is HYROX So Popular?

HYROX has struck a chord with the modern athlete. Here’s why:

  •  Clear, measurable progression – You race against the clock and yourself
  •  Accessible yet challenging – Great for both newbies and elite athletes
  •  Functional fitness meets endurance – The perfect hybrid combo
  •  Global community – Compete anywhere with standardized events
  • No guesswork – You know exactly what you’re training for

It’s competitive, but welcoming. Structured, but fun. And most importantly it’s pushing people to train with purpose.

How EverybodyFights Helps You Train for HYROX
