WHYIFIGHT: Leigh Lirette
WHYIFIGHT – What’ your name, where are you from, and what do you do?
My name is Leigha. I grew up in Central Massachusetts, and have been living in the Boston area since I graduated from UMass Amherst. By day, I am a third grade teacher! By night, I am an EBF Instructor at GymIt. I love teaching and sharing my passion with others, whether it’s the kids in my class or boxing students at the gym! I try to incorporate movement as much as possible in my classroom, and use strategies and things I’ve learned through teaching when teaching fitness as well.
What makes you a fighter?
Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. I started fighting to challenge myself with getting out of my comfort zone. In life, it is so easy to just do what is easy and comfortable for you and nothing more. Teaching fitness was something I never thought I could do, and the challenge of it was exciting to me. I try to inspire my kids to try things that are challenging and take risks! I want to set an example for them and for others.
What do you fight for?
Health and strength. I am so grateful for being healthy and able to move and develop strength! It is a great stress relief, and way to be the best version of myself I can be.
What inspires you to take the hits and keep on fighting?
Friends and family who have taken more hits than I can imagine and still keep going. Seeing the strength, they have inspired me to keep on fighting! If they can do it, so can I!
If you could fight side-by-side with one person, past or present, who would it be?
Being a former dancer, it would have to be Britney or Beyoncé.
What is your Fight Fuel?
I almost always have a banana with peanut butter before the gym!
What is your Fight Song?
Lately, Elastic Heart by Sia.
What’s your favorite EverybodyFights class?
BAGSxBEATS, for sure!
Who is your favorite EverybodyFights Trainer, and why?
Monique teaches a great BAGSxBEATS class! She also inspired me to become a EBF trainer!
How do you Fight It Forward?
By teaching my students the importance of hard work and perseverance in everything they do, and inspiring them to be fighters!
