WHYIFIGHT: Victoria Rolandelli
WHYIFIGHT: What’s your name, where are you from, and what do you do?
Victoria Rolandelli, Philadelphia, PA, Brand Strategy & Development at Between The Bread
What makes you a fighter?
I’m a fighter because I persevere. There’s nothing that excites me more than getting up in the morning, getting focused and channeling my energy into a kickass workout that challenges my mind, body and soul. I love being humbled and boxing is great for that. There’s always something to learn and improve upon to keep you on your toes. I try to apply this attitude generally to my life. Never be too stagnant or complacent, even if that means crushing your ego a bit.
What do you fight for?
A lot of things! I fight for health and happiness. It’s important to take care of yourself so that you are able to take care of others. I fight because I do not want to take my health and my body for granted. I fight for my parents, who endured quite a fight themselves to come to this country and provide me with more opportunity. I fight for women – the women in my life are the strongest people I know and the absolute fiercest fighters. I fight for people who need to know we are willing to fight for them, like all of the currently displaced refugees.
Tell us about Between The Bread! What’s your mission?
Between The Bread as a company is definitely a real fighter. It was founded in 1979 by my mother-in-law. The food industry in NYC is crazy, competition is endless and the hours can be very trying on its employees. Between The Bread has survived for 38 years by sticking to its principles of incredible food and taking care of all the people that make that incredible food happen. My mission at Between The Bread is to continue that legacy, build upon it by keeping our brand fresh (pun intended) and energized. History and roots are of utmost importance, but maintaining that energy, staying relevant and adapting to change are just as important. I love pursuing exciting partnerships with great people, like EverybodyFights!
What inspires you to take the hits and keep on fighting?
Because I invest so much in people, I inevitably take many hits. Life serves up dynamic challenges – work, family, for myself, a combination of both, haha. No matter what though, it’s important to learn from our experiences with people every day, especially in the face of adversity. We can always become better friends, citizens and contributing members of society to inspire the people around us and bring out the best in each other.
If you could fight side-by-side with one person, past or present, who would it be?
Jim Braddock. On the topics of being humbled, facing adversity, investing in the people you love, I’m sure Jim Braddock could teach me a tremendous amount. I’d also love for him to teach me about strengthening my left hand.
What is your Fight Fuel (aka nutrition)?
Almond butter and green smoothies.
What is your Fight Song?
Major Lazer & Bumaye – Watch Out for This.
How do you Fight It Forward (give back to the community)?
We are constantly fighting to make Between The Bread a more sustainable business because we deeply care about minimizing our ecological footprint. We partner with a nonprofit to visit NYC public schools and provide education about healthy and sustainable food. In my personal life, I raise awareness and funds to send to Syrian refugees to enable families to receive safe drinking water, mattresses, school supplies for children, hygiene kits and basic life necessities we so often take for granted.
